Morning Star PPP
(I can't remmber where this document came from, if anyone recognises
it please let me know the original URL
First
you need to remove the SCO PPP Runtime binaries from the system.
They are located under:
SCO OpenServer Enterprise System
SCO OpenServer Enterprise System Connectivity
SCO TCP/IP
PPP Runtime utilize and drivers
<<<<<< Remove this
You
can now add SCO PPP from Morning Star from the CD-ROM. You will need
to reboot the system after this.
If
you have not already done so, add the serial port, and the modem to the
system.
Start
Netscape Navigator and go to http://localhost:615/mana/mana/menu.mana.
Enter the username and password. The username is admin and
the password is root's password.
| You
should see an array of buttons:

The button required is:
| The
next screen will display the current configured networks. Click the
button PPP Connections.
| Because
you are creating a PPP connection to a Internet Service provider, select
Add New Dial-out PPP Connection.
The
option required is the define the local IP address. If you have a
static IP assigned to you by your Service Provider then use this.
Otherwise if you connect and then assigned a dynamic IP address you can
use the current systems IP address, or guess one as it will be overwritten
with the appropriate IP.
| When
you signed up with your Service Provider they would have told you that
they had DNS Servers (This is a Domain Name Service Server). If so
then use that IP as the remote IP Address. If not then contact their
Tech department to find out the actual IP address.
| Enter
in the username that you use to login with your Provider.
| Then
enter the password that you use for that Service. This is done twice
to verify the correct password is entered
| What
is the modem dialup number? Enter it here.
then most of these are listed with the Provider's Name and Voice number.
If in doubt contact the Tech Dept.
| Hopefully
you are using a Modem here. Otherwise if you are using a serial link
then select that also.
| Do
you need a time limit on the call. If so then enter in the amount
of seconds required to stay connected or leave as it for an indeffenant
connection.
| Usually
you want want to connect on startup as you have very little control over
the connection. But if you need the system to connect on startup
then select Yes.
| What
speed is your modem? If not sure then look at the manual.
| Remember
that modem dialer you created at the beginning, this is where you get to
look for it and then assign it to the current connection.
| The
rest can be left as is. But the debug level, you may want to increase
this to 11 so you will be able to cat or tail the PPP log
file that is created under /usr/adm/ppp.log.
| Click
Create and the dialer will be make.
